We have had way too much rain. It rained all day on Easter Sunday, most of the day on Thursday and today is Saturday and it started raining in the middle of the night and it is still raining. It is almost reminding me of Kodiak, although, it is a bit warmer here when it rains.
Maybe by the afternoon it will quit raining. Lucretia and I were planning on taking the four oldest girls into Jinja today. We just wanted to spend some time with them. So the plan is after they get out of school (by the way it is Saturday), to take Bethany, Barbara, Julie, and Abigail to Jinja. We will go and have lunch. We will take them somewhere they don’t ever eat. Maybe we will take them for burgers; they certainly don’t get them very often. Then we will just shop around in Jinja for a few hours. It will really just be a chance for them to get out of the orphanage for an afternoon. So I am hoping the rain will stop, so we can get into town. The roads through the sugar cane fields can get really bad. The only way we would be able to make it, would be with 4WD. So I guess we will be flexible and see how the weather turns out.
By the way, Bob is feeling much better. He is almost over malaria. He had it pretty bad for a few days, and he is now slowly getting to feel 100%. Thank you for all of the prayers.
Since you all got my email the other day about school, why don’t I fill you in on my day. First of all on Thursday I had set my alarm for 6:30, so I could go and see the big kids off to school, well for some reason I didn’t hear it, or it never went off. It was raining that night and we have a tin roof over our heads, so it was very loud outside. My roommate didn’t hear her alarm either, so it must have been the rain. Anyway, so Friday morning the kids were expecting me, so I didn’t want to over sleep. So needless to say, I didn’t sleep very well. I woke up every hour on the hour and sometimes even on the half hour. So when I got up at 6:20am it didn’t feel like I slept much. But I was up, so I went down to the houses. Anyway, for those of you who do not know, we ride to school in the back of a truck, so 25 kids or so just pile in the back of the truck and off we go. So we left the compound around 7 or a little after. Class starts at 8am or whenever the teacher gets into the room. So I went with S3 in the morning. We had a Chemistry class and then they have a 30 minute break around 10 or so. After the break, I went with the S4 kids and I sat through CRE, which is Christian Religion Education. The odd thing in that class though, was we talked about Sex Education, so I thought it was a health class or something. Then I sat through Art and then we have lunch at 1 or 1:15, whenever the teachers let you out. So with all the classes, even though the bell rings, they will teach for another 10 or 15 minutes. I guess that is to make up for the time that they are late. So after I sat in Art class we had lunch. Most of the GSF kids sit under the same Mango tree as they did last year. Lunch is about an hour or so and then I went with the S1 kids. These kids for the most part are like the freshman group of kids. So from 2:20 until 4:30 I was with them. We had Physics and then Geography. Finally at 4:30 class was over, but then the truck doesn’t come until 6. So we all just sit around and wait. The funny thing about going to school is everybody stares at me. It can kind of make you feel uncomfortable. I’ll look around the class room and all of the eyes are on me, like I am someone special or something. I guess not many Mazugu’s go to school. A few of the kids remembered me from last year and then most of the boys just wanted to shake my hand. Then when I would greet them, the rest of the boys in the class would laugh and they would get embarrassed. It is pretty funny though. So because I was already tired from not sleeping well and it obviously being a long day at school, I was definitely ready to crash when we got back to the compound.
The kids wanted to watch a movie after dinner. The kids enjoy watching movies, they only get to watch them on the weekends, so on Friday night and Saturday night I show them a movie. It gets to be dark around 7:30 or so, so normally after that they don’t really have anything to do. During the week they have devotions when they get back from school and then on the weekend they watch a movie.
It has been really neat to see over the last year how much some of the kids have grown spiritually. You can tell a real change in them. Some of the kids that were really hard to get to know and who got into trouble last year have really changed. I see them in church and devotions, really worshipping and enjoying being there. It is such a blessing to see that.
Anyway, I need to finish getting ready for Sunday school.
